COVID-19 UPDATES

Hello church family!

We just wanted to quickly let you know what the leadership of Stonebridge has been thinking in light of California’s June 15th opening. Throughout this entire pandemic, we have tried to operate under consistent guidelines as we have navigated these uncharted waters. We have always tried to operate on a principle of love for neighbor (Mark 12:31), and a submission to our local government (Romans 13:1). We are not health experts, and we have been trying our best to follow the guidelines laid out by the health department as a very practical way of submitting to the authorities.

In light of the state decision to get back to normal on June 15th, named “Beyond the Blueprint”, we are planning on following the state guidelines of removing all restrictions on physical distancing, capacity, and mandating masks. There is still the option to wear a mask if you choose though. This is the decision of our state, and we want to be consistent in responding to the health directives of the government. We will continue to monitor any specific or updated guidance.

Our small groups will have discussions about the structure of their individual groups and will proceed forward based on each group’s decision.

However, we want to make clear as we have from the beginning, shaming others based on how they respond to this virus is not how we should act. In particular, no one should be shamed for following their convictions in regards to their decision to wear or not wear a mask. We will also continue all of our online options for those who still feel uncomfortable coming in person.

We as a church would like to hear your feedback on this decision. We want everyone to feel heard and have a chance to voice any concerns. Please get back to us if there is something you would like to share.

Thank you so much. Let’s keep pursuing Jesus together!

FAQ

Q. What day will Stonebridge start meeting in person?

A. We are meeting in person!

Q. If I don’t feel comfortable meeting in person, will I still be able to participate in church life?

A. Yes! We will keep all of our meetings and services online. All Bible studies will continue to use Zoom, and our services will still be broadcast on YouTube.

Q. Why are we listening to public health officials?

A. As Christians, we are commanded by God to submit to our governing authorities (Romans 13:1-4; 1 Peter 2:13-17). There is a biblical qualification to this, however, and that is when the government is promoting things that go against God’s commands or preventing the preaching of the good news (see Daniel 1, 3, 6; Acts 5:28-29). During this COVID time, we are not being persecuted by being forced to do immoral activities, nor is the preaching of God being hindered. Therefore, we are submitting to those who God has placed in authority over us, and seeking the welfare of the city where God has placed us (see Jeremiah 29:4-7).
